Rebuilt Arizona Room, New Patio/Back Roof in Casa Grande

By Casa Grande, Patio Replacement, Roofing, Shingle Roof, UncategorizedNo Comments

From Leaky Roof to Brand New Roof

This customer in Casa Grande, Arizona had an Arizona room in the rear of their house that had been pretty much unusable for the last few years.  The wood used was the wrong thickness, and due to a poorly installed flat roof, it leaked in a dozen locations.  The homeowners wanted to enjoy their Arizona room and not have to put up plastic and pans every time it rained.

This project took a bit more than a regular roof replacement.  For starters, all the wood was rotted.  They needed all new rafters, new fascia, new trim, and even new wood sheathing before the new rolled roofing could be put down.  Thankfully, our guys were up to the task.  The woodwork posed no problem to getting the project completed.  Fortunately, they called the best roofing company in Casa Grande, and we got the job done.

The Casa Grande homeowners also decided to replace the back half of their roof which, thankfully, didn’t need as much work as the rest.  The end result was great, and will surely allow them to enjoy the back half of their house for years to come.  On top of that, it’ll surely endure the intense Casa Grande rain and storms that the area is known to get.

If you need help on a flat roof, a shingle roof, or just a leaking roof, call the best roofers in Casa Grande: Castile Roofing.

Castile Roofing Offers Quality Shingle Roofing

While not as common as Tile Roofing or Tile Roofing Repair, shingle roofs are present in the Valley of the Sun in some homes dotted throughout the landscape. This is not unknown to Castile Roofing, which while known for our quality tile roofing; we also offer quality Shingle Roofing services, such as installation, maintenance, and repairs.

What are Shingle Roofs?

Shingle Roofs are based on the use of small tiles known as shingles. These tiles are made of wood and asphalt. Asphalt shingles are the most used material for shingle roofs. This makes it fairly cheap for roofing installations when traditional tile can become costly. But that also can be a concern in terms of maintenance and repair if not kept up properly.

Sheridan Showcase for Castile Roofing

While we view all of our efforts to satisfy our customers as our finest works, one particular location (what we call ‘The Sheridan’) is one of our ‘masterworks.’ Even our lead roofer, who actually let his team do this work themselves WITHOUT his direct supervision, felt this as the exemplary standard of ‘Roofing Done Right!’ That alone goes a long way as a roofing company. It is also the reason we are a trusted roofing company. Here are a few pictures we like to offer:

Buckskin Roofing Maintenance made by Castile Roofing

Buckskin Roofing Maintenance made by Castile Roofing

Castile Roofing is continuing to be at the forefront of helping our customers with their roofing need. One such example took place in the neighborhood of Buckskin. We like to showcase this with some photos of the job we completed a few weeks ago.

Buckskin Roof Maintenance - Castile Roofing Buckskin Roof Maintenance - Castile Roofing

Here we see the installation of new roofing tile to replace the damaged tile that was there beforehand. As you notice, the coloration is lighter than the surrounding tile. While we make every effort to go EXACTLY as colored, there are times we have to let nature do the proper tanning for us. The primary goal is to get your home’s roof back to proper functioning capability.

Here is another example to our commitment to our customers with these photos:

Sometimes, we may be asked to provide additional work; the kind that is outside the scope of the original invoice. In this instance, it was to install bird-deterrent spikes. Under normal circumstances, we would have to reschedule for a second attempt, charge for items, complete the work, etc. This is also handled on a case-by-case basis; not all cases are like this. Even so, we took the time to install these bird-deterrent spikes provided by the customer for an additional charge. Yes, we must be paid for services rendered. We cannot change that aspect of our business.

The Final Touches and The Final Message

These last set of picture overlook the runoff corner to ensure that are properly overlooking the roof and angled correctly. This is critical to prevent water deposits and to help with getting water off the roof quickly. This will give the roof additional years of life, and hopefully remove further calls to repairs.

Why Go To Castile Roofing?

For Roofing Done Right, of course! That’s how we’ve become a trusted roofing company in the Valley. From Mesa to Tempe, Scottsdale to Avondale, Chandler to Phoenix, we cover all roofs with our quality service and customer support. Call today to schedule work you need done.

Eloy – Our Greatest Challenge, And Our Legacy

By Roofing, Consultation, Maintenance, Repairs, Shingle Roof

One of the many small towns that dot our beloved Grand Canyon State, Eloy is a small town with many homes in need of some love. While we cannot rebuild the homes, we CAN work on roofing to make sure they can withstand the harsh weather out there. Here are some examples of some much needed work and care.

The Porch Areas of a Complex in Eloy

Here we have the following roofs that act as the top portion of the porch:

Eloy - Roofs in desperate need of repair and Roofing Done Right! Eloy - Roofs in desperate need of repair and Roofing Done Right!

Here you have the the porch area sections. As you notice, mold and rot have taken hold. Eventually, if left unchecked and without repair, this part of the roof will collapse, possibly hurting someone. Naturally, you want to keep people safe from that kind of harm.

More Examples of Potential Problems; Same Complex

Here you see several examples of water damage from AC units installed on the roof itself. This is due to negligence when having an AC on the roof without regularly checking on it. Over time, you see runoff patterns from water/Freon seeping out from the exhaust pipe. This discolors the shingles shown here and also causing permeation which weakens the roofs ability to guard against the elements. While these shown are a more extreme case, it’s important to contact us regularly to make sure you don’t have your roof end up like this.

Natural Foliage, Natural Problems

Here is where nature is not being kind to this poor roof. While the tree itself is not through the roof, thankfully, it can do some discoloration and and also make it too easy for tree dwellers to hop onto the roof and use it for whatever they want to do. Therefore, you want someone to inspect the roof to see if there is any significant damage. Our consultation will be able to have that done for you. Depending on the type of roof; shingle, tile, etc., the cost could be considerable.

The Verdict

As you see from the pictures provided that a lot of the ‘porch’ sections of these roofs, along with the rest of the roofs themself are in the WORST of shape. They could fall from decay at almost any moment. So don’t wait until you reach this level of damage. Our closest and more readily available location to serve you is that of the Casa Grande Location. Roofing Done Right in Peoria – A Day in the Life of a Castile Roofer

By Roofing, Roofing Maintenance, Roofing Repair

Work in Peoria – How it Began

At Castile Roofing, we know a roofer’s work is truly never done. Merely completed until the next challenge comes their way. Such was the case for one of our roofers when he received the call for a truss coming apart as well as leaking in a home in Peoria. This home was also a proud owner of solar panels; hoping to save even more money on energy costs while taking full advantage of the largest power source. That said, it does put a burden on the roof itself, as seen on the truss here:

Peoria Maintenance and Repair - Castile Roofing - Roofing Done Right Peoria Maintenance and Repair - Castile Roofing - Roofing Done Right - The Start of the Repair Process

Fortunately, we were able to get the repairs necessary for this customer.

The Work That Was Done

First and foremost, we start with the first and major concern, the truss (the silver metal thing holding the support beams onto the roof itself). Our roofer went ahead and replaced the truss itself, as shown here:

Peoria - Roofing Repair Done Right - Left Side Peoria - Roofing Repair Done Right - Right Side

With the truss replaced, the beam is better reinforced. This will help in dealing with the weight of the solar panels on top of the roof. This is important as the LAST thing our customer wants to deal with is a solar panel breaking through the ceiling creating an improptu “sun roof.”

Going Topside at our Customer’s Peoria Home

Speaking of, that’s where we go to next. Here the focus was handling the potential areas that would leak during the summertime. The following showcases areas of repair handled by our sturdy roofer:

Peoria - Roofing Maintenance and Repair Done Right Peoria - Castile Roofing Done Right with Proper Maintenance and Repair Peoria - Roofing Maintanence and Repair Done Right Peoria - Roofing Repair and Maintenance Done Right - Castile Roofing

The main focus here was ensuring that there are no leaks coming from the air-conditioner (so your AC bill isn’t through the roof; get it?) as well as from the vent exhausts. To do this, they used a special adhesive to ensure the areas remain airtight. This will further save the customer vast amounts on their heating and cooling bills, on top of the savings they will have from using Solar Energy!

Another Satisfied Customer and Roofer

Now we’ve reached the end, and the job is complete. Addressing the supports first prior to the roof work topside shows our care to the customer’s safety. Then, we got to work to further protect their investment in the home by cutting down potential leak areas. This is the professional quality you can rely and expect from us at Castile Roofing; Roofing Done Right in Peoria!

Tips On How Long Does A Roof Last

How Long The Roof On Your House Will Last And Tips For Making It Last Even Longer

How Long The Roof On Your House Will Last And Tips For Making It Last Even Longer

One of the most important features on your house is the roof.  It undergoes wear and tear on a regular basis.  Although at some time all roofs need to be replaced, when it needs to happen will depend on various factors: especially how it is maintained and the materials that are used. Castile Roofing is trained to handle such issues, but it helps YOU, the customer to spot them ahead of time; starting with the roofing materials.

The Kinds of Roofing Materials

The materials that are most commonly used on a roof are foam, steel, tile, slate, wood and asphalt.  Asphalt shingles will last from 18 up to 30 years, while wood shakes tend to last anywhere from 14 up to 20 years.  Steel, tile and slate can all last for 50 years or even longer.  Usually a foam roof will last from 10 up to 15 years.  They can also last as long as 30 years if certain coatings get applied to them.  Whenever you are replacing your roof, make sure that you select quality materials that will do well and hold up in your local climate. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

Tip #1: How To Extend Your Roof’s Lifespan

When considering tips, here’s one to start. There are several different things you can do to extend the life of your roof.  You can clean the roof on a regular basis, care for any nearby trees and inspect it for any wear and tear.

Tip #2: Inspect Your Roof

Inspecting your roof every year is one thing you can do to extend its life.  For climates that have a harsh winter, the best time to inspect your roof is after winter is over.  In hot climates, it should be done when summer ends.  It’s also a very good idea to inspect your roof following a hail storm or heavy rain.  If you check for damage on a regular basis, your roof will stay in good shape for a longer period of time.

Tips On How Long Will A Roof LastCheck for curled-up edges or cracks, especially on wood shakes or asphalt shingles.  Also make sure you look for dips in your roof: that might be a sign that there is a leak.  When caught early, problems are a lot easier to fix, so make sure you check your roof on a regular basis for any warning signs.

Tip #3: Take Care Of Nearby Trees

Trees might be bad or good for your roof, depending on the area where you live.  If you happen to live in a humid or wet climate, you need to trim back any tress hanging over your roof.  Trees in a wet climate may prevent your roof from completely drying.  That will increase the wear and tear on the roof.  In a sunny and dry climate, trees can actually help to prevent damage by providing the roof with shade.  No matter what kind of climate you live in, make sure to remove the leaves from your roof on a regular basis, since they may trap moisture and cause other problems as well.

Tip #4: Clean Your Roof

Of all the tips, this is one of the most critical. It is very important to clean your gutters to extend your roof’s life.  Usually clogged gutters are associated with causing problems either for your basement or siding, but your roof can be affected as well.  If the leaves pile up too deep, water may get into the roof’s rafters or sheathing and start to rot.  Each fall and spring you should clean your gutter to prevent rot from occurring.

In some parts of the country, especially the Northwest is particularly prone to moss. Mass may trap water which can cause a lot of damage.  Therefore, removing it is very important.  Usually you can just sweep moss of if you catch it early.  You might have to kill it first if the moss has accumulated.

In areas that have harsh winters, it is a smart idea to remove snow from the roof in between storms. Snow become quite heavy and can cause a roof to collapse in the right circumstances.  Removing snow can prevent leaks as well.  If any patches of ice are bonded to the roof, you shouldn’t attempt to remove them, since that can cause further damage.

Eventually you will need to replace your roof.  However, there are things you can do to help prevent this from happening too fast.  A longer lifespan will depend on how your roof is maintained along with the materials that it is made of.  You can get the most from your money and your roof by regular care and cleaning and by using more durable materials.

Four Roofing Scams To Be Aware Of

By Consultation, Roofing

Roofs are a very expensive component of your house, and the roofing industry is known to have a fair amount of deceptions and scams associated with it.  If a homeowner is informed before trying to hire a local roofing contractor they can ensure getting a quality job and save money.  The following are four scams that are common to the roof repair industry and how you can avoid them.

1.  Unnecessary roof replacements

Asphalt shingles are among the most common common materials that Arizona roofing companies use.  They have been designed to last for twenty years at least.  It is expensive to replace a roof.  Homeowners can inspect their roofs from the ground using binoculars.  Usually shingles needing to be replaced get brittle and curl up.  A common sales deception is to try to convince you to replace your roof before it is necessary.  This can lead to a job that is quite expensive.

2.  Removing stained shingles

Many houses in the Phoenix area are prone to getting algae.  This is similar to the plants growing in ponds and oceans.  The algae frequent grows on a roof’s sunny side and can lead to discolored and stained shingles.  Some roofing companies in Phoenix will insist that the stained shingles be replaced. It is an expensive job that isn’t necessary.  There are several products that are offered by the roofing industry that have been designed to remove the stains and kill the algae.  Some products can be found in local home improvement stores and attach easily to the end of your garden hose.  Algaecide can be applied by homeowners themselves or they can have the job done by a professional.

3. Extra Repairs

Usually free estimates are provided, and a majority of experts recommend that homeowners get three different quotes at least.  Estimates don’t cover any rotten wood that might be encountered on the job.  That can result in expensive change orders and repairs that can increase the original estimate.  Your contract should clearly state how much you will need to pay in the event that there are any unforeseen damages that need to be taken care. Also, homeowners might want to examine the damage themselves prior to agreeing to any repair work.  Binoculars are an excellent way to view a roof from the ground.  Sometimes it is necessary to replace rotten wood, and a majority of contractors do charge by the hour for their work.

4. Storm Chasers

Following a large storm, it is understandable that most homeowners will have concerns about their property.  Arizona roofing companies offer numerous ways for homeowners to be certain that their properties are still in good shape.  Homeowner’s insurance covers most roof repairs, and having an inspection done is a very proactive approach to take in assessing any potential damage.  Preventive maintenance and routine inspections are offered by Phoenix roofing companies.  Professionals are able to schedule convenient times for inspecting a roof following a storm.  It is an excellent way of checking for damage without having to feel any pressure to sign a contract.  Numerous roofing companies solicit following a storm.  Getting a professional inspection done is an affordable way of seeing what repairs are necessary.

Homeowners may rely on an insured and licensed Arizona roofing company to make sure their properties are fully protected.  There are plenty of competent professionals in the roof repair industry, however the field has been given a bad name but a few dishonest contractors.  A major of contractors guarantee their work and provide quality service.  Having your home inspected regularly is a proactive approach that can save you a significant amount of money.
