Overcoming a Cracked Foam Roof

The Problem to Overcome With This Roof

This was a very unique roofing situation.  The customer had a shingle roof, which then had a foam roof applied on top of that.  In addition, a roof coating was applied as well.  Because of these layers, there was no damage to the underlaying of the roof’s structure.

The problem was that part of the foam roof had split off onto the side.  This was caused primarily due to the air conditioning unit continuously leaking water.  Along with this, and daily exposure to the outside elements, it destroyed the coating in a patch.  From there, the water made a pathway down the side of the roof.

When other roofing contractors looked at the situation, their only conclusion was to replace the entire roof.  An complete roof replacement was not the only option that Castile Roofing saw.

Castile Roofing’s Solution

Considering that the rest of the roof was in good shape, the customer was not ready to replace their entire roof prematurely.  After a careful assessment, we determined that there was an alternative solution.  Our conclusion not only protected their home once again, it was more what the customer wanted in the first place.

Our roofers were able to re-attach the section that had split off.  Then, using a mixture of polyester and super putty, they filled  and sealed the section, and every single crack the water had created.  After that, we applied  multiple layers of roof coating to ensure the roof was sealed.  Not only did ensure that the roof was fully protected, it also gave it a fantastic finish.  The best part is, this roof won’t need to be replaced for about 10 years.

The New Installation of Replacement Tile

Customers know that having a lot of tile to repair takes time. What most customers forget to realize is that tiles can be heavy to carry. These tiles averaged 20 lbs per tile. For our roofer, the max he could carry was up to three. The job required 30 replacements; during the start of our summertime. Needless to say, our stalwart roofer got his workout for the entire day. Sometimes, we may be asked to provide additional work; the kind that is outside the scope of the original invoice. In this instance, it was to install bird-deterrent spikes. Under normal circumstances, we would have to reschedule for a second attempt, charge for items, complete the work, etc. This is also handled on a case-by-case basis; not all cases are like this. Even so, we took the time to install these bird-deterrent spikes provided by the customer for an additional charge. Yes, we must be paid for services rendered. We cannot change that aspect of our business.

Roofing Done Right in Peoria – A Day in the Life of a Castile Roofer

Work in Peoria – How it Began

At Castile Roofing, we know a roofer’s work is truly never done. Merely completed until the next challenge comes their way. Such was the case for one of our roofers when he received the call for a truss coming apart as well as leaking in a home in Peoria. This home was also a proud owner of solar panels; hoping to save even more money on energy costs while taking full advantage of the largest power source. That said, it does put a burden on the roof itself, as seen on the truss here:

The Work That Was Done

First and foremost, we start with the first and major concern, the truss (the silver metal thing holding the support beams onto the roof itself). Our roofer went ahead and replaced the truss itself, as shown here:

With the truss replaced, the beam is better reinforced. This will help in dealing with the weight of the solar panels on top of the roof. This is important as the LAST thing our customer wants to deal with is a solar panel breaking through the ceiling creating an improptu “sun roof.”

The main focus here was ensuring that there are no leaks coming from the air-conditioner (so your AC bill isn’t through the roof; get it?) as well as from the vent exhausts. To do this, they used a special adhesive to ensure the areas remain airtight.
